LA PURA VIDA – part one

LA PURA VIDA – part one

Treat day for the two excited travellers…

Breakfast meeting 07:30…
Departure from hotel 09:00…
Destination (for us) unknown..

Our first stop was at the village of La Fortuna…

…in a tree in the middle of the village was this magnificent beast…
…he was a good 4 feet long, just hanging out in the tree.

…next was a stop at an orange and coconut plantation…

where we were outfitted with life vests
and refreshed with real coconut water…

…we headed out in our two-person kayak…

…while the crew setup their equipment…

…and here we come…

…it’s a wrap!
(sound and camera man approved)

…next they setup for the water slide shoot – oh my!

…Francois made a perfect run…several times…

…while I, on the other hand…

…was too concerned about dying from fright
to keep my elbows tucked in.

Next we had the pleasure of viewing first hand the habits of the
Red-Eyed Tree Frog…

…sleeping mode…

…they blend in so well with their environment…

…I was able to pick her up and place her on my knee…

…and perch her on my finger…

…but it didn’t take long before she was ready to move on…

…to a more interesting landing…

…after a little repose…

…we headed across the lake…

…to enjoy a traditional Costa Rican meal,
made with fresh local ingredients,
prepared in a traditional open-air kitchen,
in the home of two wonderful Costa Rican women.
Absolutely delicious!

…part two to follow…

COSTA RICA ADVENTURE – Departure

COSTA RICA ADVENTURE – Departure

Early morning check in at Montreal Airport –

up at 02:30 to get ready and make sure we arrived at 04:00

for our 06:00 flight…

where we met up with the team.

This was the first time using our Nexus card

and it worked like a charm….bypassed the huge lines.

Uneventful flight to Miami…

We haven’t flown in a while

and were amazed at how tiny the personal space is on aircraft these days.

After grabbing lunch at the Miami airport

we boarded our flight to Costa Rica.

The guys are a great bunch and all get along so well.

It made the almost 4 hour (usually 2 hour) drive from the San Jose airport

north to our hotel – the Tilahari – so much fun.

The camera guy bounced from seat to seat
getting the best shots of us and scenery.
…after patiently waiting with just an iPhone to take shots ourselves
(we were told to leave our camera at home),
the team presented us with our gift….
…the latest Canon EOS 70D with wide angle lense…
and an extra zoom lense.
…this is a super ‘hot’ piece of equipment.
…Francois got the best image along the way with this shot…
After settling in at the hotel
we had the chance to practice with our new treasure…
…the hotel staff routinely load the trees outside the restaurant
with pieces of fruit to feed the birds and entertain the guests…

After a great dinner with our guides Jim and Susan,

we crashed to get a decent night’s sleep.

Apparently tomorrow will be packed with activities….

INTO THE UNKNOWN

INTO THE UNKNOWN

So here we go!
Ready for anything…
Today’s itinerary….
Montreal to Miami…
Miami to San José, Costa Rica…
San José into the wilds…
Arenal Volcano National Park.
This is all we are allowed to know for now.
Let’s have a conversation about trust shall we?
