……”The Visitor Experience Opportunities Concept will provide new opportunities to encourage visitors and promote economic development in the Rideau Canal corridor,” said Brown.
Brown said this new commitment is an opportunity for communities and businesses to work together to “support, enhance and development new ways to attract visitors to the canal system.
Jennifer Kelly of Portland’s Bayview Yacht Harbour said the announcement was a decided improvement.
“It’s definitely a good start,” she said. “It would be nice if it was a little longer, especially on Friday, like open until 7:30 p.m. like it used to be.”
The hour difference on Friday evening makes all the difference, Kelly said, to people who want to make a lock or two after work. She also said the two-hour difference on weekends will allow people to make a full day’s journey without having to worry about getting back to a home base.
“It’s wonderful, it’s still an improvement and I think that’s what we need to focus on.”
