On a recent trip to Québec City – Francois to work, me to play the wandering tourist – I focused less on the extreme cold and began thinking about how pleasant it would be to sail here.

We usually stay at the Courtyard Marriott as it is close to François’ meetings and is located in a charming part of the old port, a great place for taking pictures and Serge, the bar keep makes the best dirty martinis.

My thoughts helped warm me as I meandered the streets of Vieux Port in -22deg C (feels like -31) temperatures. Perfect weather for Carnival.

I found a post on one of the blogs I follow: Adjusting Our Sails, describing their experience sailing on Tai Chi from their home in Toronto to Québec and beyond to the beautiful Bahamian Islands . Our MacGregor 26 will not have the capacity to take us off shore as their 42 foot Cabo Rico – ‘a cutter-rigged blue-water beauty’ – but I can easily see us exploring the Saint Lawrence River….

I have a clear image of us tying up at the Port of Québec Marina after negotiating the currents & locks…enjoying dinner and a late evening cocktail aboard R.E.D. while watching the spectacular light show (creation of Robert Lepage) on the waterfront silos.

I feel warmer already…

…less than 3 months to go…
