CARILLON to L’ORIGNAL

…by 0930 the lock was operational…
…42′ clearance was more than enough to pass through…
…the water within the lock has to rise 22 metres
to bring us to the level of the Outaouais River
on the far side of the Carillon Hydro Generating Station…

…so we waited…

…and waited…

…but 30 minutes later we were on our way…

…light winds at our back…
…gull-winged sails…
…average SOG 3.5 knots…

…we sailed past beautiful pastoral scenes…

…and some really spectacular properites…

…we reached Hawksbury by early afternoon…

…more height calculations…
…this time 15 metres gave us more than enough clearance…

…a nearby airport provided some visual entertainment…

…I thought these gliders woud be like sailing in the air
and Francois told me that indeed they are called
‘vole à voile’ (flight by sail)…

…by late afternoon the wind had died so we stopped by this little marina at L’Orignal…
(translation: the Moose)

..after docking we asked the manager if we could have a place for the night
and he said that’s your place, here’s the key to the toilets and showers,
leave the key on the hook when you leave.
NO CHARGE!!!

…we walked around the little “Moose” village for a while…

…very picturesque and so very friendly…

…the claim to fame of the village is their ancient prison.
(couldn’t keep this enthusiastic sailor penned up for long)…
After returning to R.E.D. some marina members stopped by not once,
not twice,
but three times
to chat and ask about our boat.
They had never seem a real MacGregor up close.
This is what the boating community is really like…
friendly…
sharling commons interests…
…in the boaters’ world everyday brings new experiences,
new friends
and new views…
…and tonight this was ours…
…sleep well (I know we will)…
…see you all tomorrow…
