“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.
You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet,
there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
~The Fellowship of the Ring~
His day – obligations
Today my Captain changes his skipper’s cap for a beret,
sandals for army boots,
steps onto the road and is swept away
from boat to office
once again.
We quite often refer to his work place as Middle Earth
because it is half way between Montreal and Quebec City,
there are two towers…
one in Shawinigan where he works,
…and one in Montreal where we live…
and we are big Tolkien fans
My day…
After the fog lifted this morning
I found warm sun with great south west winds.
I walked along the shore dipping my toes in the river,
watching the movement of the breeze on the water,
the river traffic…
…the gulls as they faced to the wind, then took flight.
Sadly no sailing for us today but soon we will be on our way,
obligations fulfilled,
hoping for that same gentle south west wind
to take us eastward
to the beautiful historic
Ville de Québec…
Ah, Tolkein fans! You might be interested in knowing that the name of my sailboat was Shadowfax, after the legendary white horse in Lord of the Rings. Is it a sailing thing, do you think? Thanks for the asparagus recipe, looks awesome! I like Francois' 7-6-5 rule, so many people overcook their tenderloin…
Lori, could be a sailing thing or a more generic fantasy spiritual magical thing. I've been a big Tolkien fan since pre-sailing high school days.
