Last year I found that a port-side galley and a starboard-side refrigerator
was an awkward configuration.
So Francois has worked out a set-up that will make galley life onboard R.E.D.
a lot more convenient.
To do so we will have to make the P1 hold less accessible
but since it is the smallest storage area,
the plan is to store items infrequently needed there.
… our Dometic CF50…
…the plan…
…navigation tools are coming in handy…
…the base layer – access for the ‘hold’…
…base layer part II – cutting holes for the ‘important’ stuff…
…making sure the ‘important’ stuff fits…
…the middle layer – access for the power cord…
…the middle layer – allowing ‘breathing’ room…
…the middle layer – front view…
…tint primer…
…when one tint won’t do, try another…
…applying the trim…
…trap to access S1 hold…
…access to power outlet…
…holds all the ‘essentials’…
…extra containers to hold galley gear…
…new 12 V outlet with 6 amp fuse installed port side…
…installed astern to existing galley and secured with 6 anchor bolts…
…it works!!!…
…now I can’t wait to bring the rest of the galley gear onboard…
Looks great, but would you not want better access to the extra bins by turning it around?
Everything you do on R.E.D. is a class act, my compliments ๐

Thanks thanks Jurgen. We did consider turning it when it was starboard last year (behind the starboard seat). It's now next to the galley on top of the P1 hold. The wooden hold cover that you see in one of the pics covers P1 and is under the cooler. We can lift up the cooler to access but cooler can be a bit heavy so only rarely used stuff will be stored there. I found having to lean over the starboard seat a pain so will try it this way. Not permanently installed but if it works well this year may start adding some sort of shelving to it. It's a process isn't it.? ๐
That's really cool! We have a Dometic, too, one size down. I don't have a great home for it yet. We have a big fridge/freezer, but only use it when we are actually traveling. The Dometic stays plugged into AC while we are at the dock, keeping the beverages cold. A few years ago, I had a problem with the DC side not working and did some disassembly, found a very poorly done electrical connection, soldered but not mechanically attached, that had come undone. Easy fix as it turned out.

Hi Beth, I love the Dometic…low consumption. HAd some 'issues' with it last summer..found the dealer had wired our 2 batteries backward – charging system reversed. :-/ (everything he added had issues for that matter – oh the stories we could tell! – but we've moved on) but all good now. Dometic makes a Duel Zone model too but couldn't get it here. Freezer would be nice but would have cut down on refrigerator space. Just makes me appreciate a drink with ice when I can get one ๐
