We decided to create our own custom boat bedding
and after a bit of discussion came up with a reasonable solution.
…the concept…
We purchased a duvet system which includes 2 duvets of different temperature ratings: one on top for light temperature, the other for cooler nights, together on the bottom for hot summer nights (like sleeping on a feather bed) or together on top for very cold nights. Covering three seasons (so to speak).
Then we purchased two duvet covers and a set of sheets.
François wanted something bright and lively.
I wanted something to work with red decor.

I then purchased some ‘snap tape’…
one with plastics snaps used in making baby sleepers and lingerie
to apply to the sheets…
And stainless steel ones in red to apply to the duvet covers…
Following are the steps to create our bedding system…
Step 1: Sewing the plastics snaps on both sheets…
Step 2: Sewing the marine snap tapes to each duvet cover…
Once snapped together the sheets fit nicely into the snapped together duvet envelope.
Now we can ‘button up’ and cover up as much or as little as we like.
With each duvet cover comes two pillow covers so I kept two for our bed pillows and made two throw cushions from the others…
…et voilà…
‘blindingly bright bed in a bag for a boat’…
…which rolls up into a neat sausage at the end of the night
to make room for more stuff…
