Buying Guide for 14 Ft Kayak Covers
Choosing the right kayak cover for your 14-foot kayak involves evaluating several factors to ensure optimal protection and convenience.
Material and Durability
600D Oxford cloth is a popular choice for its strong tear resistance and durability. Look for covers with PU (polyurethane) coating for enhanced waterproofing without sacrificing breathability, which prevents mold and mildew buildup.
Waterproof and UV Protection
An effective kayak cover must be fully waterproof, including sealed seams or waterproof zippers, to keep moisture out. UV resistance is equally important to prevent sun damage like fading and material degradation.
Size and Fit
A snug fit around your kayak ensures better protection from wind and rain. Covers designed for 13 to 14 feet or slightly wider ranges (13-15 or up to 16 feet) offer flexibility, but always verify your kayakâs length and beam width before purchasing.
Security Features
Look for features like adjustable buckle straps, elastic hems, or tie-down points to keep the cover in place during harsh weather or when transporting. This also reduces water pooling and potential fabric tearing.
Ease of Use
Consider covers with design elements like waterproof zippers or shoulder straps for convenient handling. Easy installation/removal saves you time and effort, especially if you regularly store or transport your kayak.
Additional Considerations
- Breathability: Prevent condensation buildup inside the cover by choosing breathable materials.
- Portability: Some covers come with storage bags for compact packing when not in use.
- Multi-use Compatibility: Some covers fit various watercraft types such as canoes, paddle boards, and fishing boats, enhancing versatility.
