Buying Guide
Key considerations for choosing 14 ft jon boat covers and related accessories:
- Boat size compatibility: Verify exact length and beam width; models list 12–14 ft ranges but measure your hull and any extra hardware for a perfect fit.
- Material durability: Look for marine-grade fabrics (600D–1200D) with waterproof coatings and UV protection to extend life in sun and rain.
- Seam strength: Double or quadruple stitching and taped seams reduce water intrusion and seam tearing during travel.
- Wind and security: Windproof features such as buckles, straps, and elastic hems prevent covers from flapping or blowing away.
- Storage vs. trailering: Consider models with reinforced corners and easy-on/easy-off designs for frequent use and transport.
- Maintenance: Lighter fabrics wear faster; choose darker colors if dirt visibility is a concern and clean regularly to extend life.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the best fabric for 14 ft jon boat covers? Durable options include 600D to 1200D marine-grade polyester, providing waterproofing and UV resistance for long-term outdoor use.
- How do I measure my jon boat for a cover? Measure the boat length, beam width, and any protruding hardware. If between sizes, select the larger cover for a secure fit.
- Are vented covers better? Vented options reduce moisture buildup under the cover, helping prevent mold and mildew during storage.
- Can covers be used for trailering? Yes, many 12–14 ft covers are designed for trailer use, but ensure the model includes secure straps and buckles for highway speeds.
- What maintenance is required? Rinse off salt and dirt, dry fully before storage, and inspect seams periodically. Re-treat coatings if fading or wear appears.
- Is it better to buy a 12 ft cover for a 14 ft boat? If the hull length exceeds 14 ft or there are protrusions, choose the 14 ft compatible cover to ensure full coverage and fit.
