Buying Guide for Boat Lift Bunk Boards and Carpeting
Choosing the correct bunk boards and carpet covers for your boat lift involves several important factors:
- Material Thickness and Durability: Marine-grade carpet with a thick pile (6mm or more) offers better shock absorption and long-lasting protection against wear, sun, and water damage.
- Size and Coverage: Measure your bunk boards precisely. Standard widths are typically 9 to 12 inches wide, and lengths should be enough to cover the entire bunk or runner with allowance for wrapping ends.
- Water Drainage: Carpets or wraps designed with a small gap or breathable backing allow water to drain, preventing mildew and water retention under your boat.
- Installation Ease: Kits that include adhesive spreaders, glue, or staples can simplify the mounting process. Some carpets come in pre-cut rolls sized to common bunk dimensions.
- UV and Weather Resistance: Prolonged exposure to sun and water requires carpets with UV inhibitors and waterproof backing to maintain integrity over time.
- Compatibility with Bunk Boards and Brackets: Sturdy bunk boards and brackets are crucial to support carpeted bunks. Consider heavy-duty galvanized steel brackets that resist corrosion and maintain secure support.
- Maintenance and Replacement: Choose carpeting that dries quickly and resists mold or mildew buildup to reduce maintenance efforts. Consider also ease of replacing sections if damaged.
- Additional Uses: Some marine carpets can be repurposed for boat decking, garage floors, or van conversions, providing extended versatility.
By evaluating these dimensions and features, you can select the best bunk boards and carpet covers to protect your boat effectively while enhancing loading and unloading ease on your boat lift.
