Buying Guide for Boat Covers and Accessories on Lifts
When selecting a boat cover or support accessory for boats on lifts, several factors should guide your decision to ensure optimal protection and ease of use.
Material and Weather Resistance
- Waterproof and UV Protection: Choose covers made from materials like polyester with PU or PVC coatings and UV-resistant finishes. This will prevent water damage, fading, and mildew growth.
- Durability: Heavy-duty fabrics like 1200D Oxford offer superior tear resistance and longevity, especially important in harsh weather environments.
Fit and Compatibility
- Correct Sizing: Match the cover dimensions to your boat’s length and beam width. Covers with adjustable straps and elastic hems provide a better fit and reduce wind lift.
- Boat Type Specifics: Consider whether the cover is designed for V-hull, bass boats, or flat-bottom designs to ensure proper coverage.
Support Systems to Prevent Sagging
- Support Poles: Poles like adjustable aluminum supports prevent water pockets and sagging by holding the cover upright.
- Weight and Straps: Pre-installed straps and weight bags stabilize the cover against wind and weather.
Bunk Carpet Considerations
- Thickness and Material: Choose carpets with at least 6mm thickness made of marine-grade polyester or carpets with PVC backing for protection and durability.
- Size and Coverage: Carpet length should fully wrap the bunks to protect hulls during launch and retrieval.
- Non-Slip Properties: PVC backed carpets provide extra grip and longevity, ideal for tough use.
Ease of Installation and Storage
- Quick Release Buckles and Adjustable Straps: Facilitate fast fitting and removal.
- Storage Bags: Convenient storage solutions extend the cover’s lifespan and keep it clean when not in use.
By evaluating these attributes—material quality, proper fit, durable construction, and support features—you can select the best boat covers and accessories that effectively protect your boat on lifts, improve longevity, and simplify maintenance.
