RIGGING – part 2

RIGGING – part 2

Mastus Erectus

Proper footwear to keep the boat (relatively) clean and ourselves safe…

Ready with the mast raising system…

Waiting for me…

Still waiting…

Here I come…

Success on the first try…

Looks really good….
but…

Way up at the top of the mast
we noticed some tape we had forgotton to remove…UGG!!!
Raised and lowered AGAIN…easier the second time though.

All good practice…

Adverse weather heading our way.

14 knot winds and increasing…

maybe better to play it safe and install the boom and sails tomorrow…

A few finishing touches…

Before leaving we enjoyed our first picnic aboard…

RIGGING – part 1

RIGGING – part 1

Some of the stuff
(as referenced in the previous post – the essential stuff – some of it anyway)
Reading the manual…

OK – got this part…
the tools
(SOME of the tools)…

may be the last time the lines are this white…
YAY – we remembered how to tie a bowline…
‘rigged’ some entertainment…
secure in…
and secure out…
what did we learn about mares tails and mackerel skies?…
“Mackerel sky, mackerel sky. Never long wet and never long dry,”
and the nautical weather rhyme,
“Mare’s tails and mackerel scales / Make tall ships carry low sails.”
Wind really picked up and the rains fell in buckets…thus ending our rigging day early
finished at our local watering hole for a quick beer
then home to re-group for another day
